Places to go in Miami
Posted Fri Apr 11 13:20:51 -0700 2008I spend some time today talking to locals and the big recommendation is to go to Mary Brickell village just south of us across the bridge & S miami ave. There are bars and dancing. I was thinking of heading there after the reception on Friday.
You can walk or take that free tram that runs by the convention center.

Here are a couple of other places I've enjoyed (I live about an hour north of Miami)
The following are a cab ride away (you'll have to check with the concierge about public transportation)
To truly get a 'flavor' of Miami I'd also try checking out South Beach. Grab some pad thai or pizza at one of the cafes on Lincoln Mall, which is not really a mall but more of a paved outdoor area. You can watch all the 'beautiful' people with their little doggies roller blade by. You should also try swinging by Ocean Drive which runs along the actual beach part of South Beach. Mangoes Bar/Club, News Cafe and Versace's house are some of popular spots to check out.
Bayside is another popular tourist attraction. If you have the time you can take a 1 hour cruise of the intracoastal waterway.
If crowds are not your thing and you'd prefer something more historical (well historical for this part of the US anyway!) try to get to Vizcaya. I love wandering around its gardens. You actually forget you are so close to the city.
If anyone is staying around after the summit and has a rental car I highly recommend trying to get yourself to at least one of the upper keys to go snorkeling or kayaking. You can watch the sunset at one of the tiki bars in Key Largo or Islamorada. The water is a gorgeous blue even though its not yet its bathwater temperature yet :)
OK I said way more than I intended to! Hope you guys enjoy your stay in South Florida!
I spent the afternoon at Lincoln Mall today, and it was a *great* people watching place. Plenty of choice of eating and drinking, and seemed like a lot of places had wifi if that is your thing.
