summit volunteer meetup
Posted Tuesday, April 8, 12:35PMAny student volunteers out there want to get together for a lunch/dinner/drink? JungShan Lee (University of Pittsburgh) and I (UBC) are thinking Friday evening at/after the welcome reception, but we're flexible. Interested? Share your time/place ideas.

Does it have to be for volunteers only? How about students in general? I don't think we have too many. We got the 6 "FatDux kids" and a few more including the 2 of you, my classmate Ren, and roommate Alla. Friday right after the welcome reception sounds good. Can we make it a student meet up?
Of course non-volunteer students/recent grads are welcome! Sounds great and look forward to seeing you there. Perhaps we can plan to go for drinks/dinner - anyone have a good casual restaurant suggestion? I love Cuban food...
I'm interested in meeting up - I'm an ASIST volunteer. It will be great to meet you all. I'm flexible with my plans, and I'll eat pretty much anything.
I'd be interested in meeting up too. I'm one of the "FatDux kids", and I already know Rachel as we are both at UW. (Andy, another one of our UW/ASIS&T peeps, might be interested in going too.) I'll ping some other grad students I've found on here and point them to this thread...
I have a personal interest in going to this restaurant called Corky's, but it's probably impractical due to distance. I'm pretty much open to anything, although I'm not into sushi. ;-)
I'm a Grad Student (but not a volunteer or a FatDux kid) and I'd love to join you for drinks/dancing(?) Friday after the Welcome Reception. I'll also eat almost anything except sushi. I arrive Friday late morning in case anyone does want to meet up around lunchtime too. Looking forward to meeting all of you!
Another grad student here (soon to be an ex-student in a couple of weeks- whoo hoo!) who'd like to meet all of you. I can hang out for a little bit on Friday evening. Unfortunately, I have to take a final exam in JavaScript the day after the conference, so I'll be spending most of my free time studying :(
I don't know the area around the hotel, so I can't suggest a restaurant, but something within walking distance would be good if there *is* anything around there. My impression was that the hotel is in the financial district so hopefully it won't become a ghost-town after 5pm.
See you all in a couple of days!
Volunteers and students could meet at the reception and then go to eat diner at Las Palmas Cafeteria (tiny Cuban café 2 blocks away). Might be the best affordable place for people on a budget. Specially if you don't want to eat boring sandwiches at Subway. What do you guys think?
I'd love to go for a Cuban dinner afterward, but does this mean that the Welcome Reception is not dinner/nibbles? I don't know much about it (just the time).
(student volunteer, Wayne State University) sounds like fun! I'm in. @susan, I was a student volunteer at annual meeting and I remember the reception being like appetizer food, and maybe small sandwiches... don't know how IA Summit differs, first one for me. There was also a student party after the Welcome Reception there too though...
Thanks Heidi! Looking forward to seeing you and Amy there.

It looks like I won't be getting into town until after midnight, so I'll miss the student caucus. I know, this will likely cost me any chance I had to sit at the cool kids table, but maybe the band geeks or math nerds will take pity on me. Look for me on Saturday and say hello!
I'm a student volunteer from Simmons GSLIS, however I won't be arriving until Friday around 10pm (have class in the afternoon). I hope to meet all of you over the weekend!
